5 out of 5 Stars (I am still thinking about this story)

I can’t believe I almost did not read this book.  This was an amazing read.

Synopsis: Emily Vargas, who is a successful self-help author and speaker.  While on one of her speaking engagements, something is slipped into her drink and she wakes up in a small dark room, held captive.  Emily does not know why she was kidnapped.  She does not even know who her captor is. In this story, we go through this journey of mental “abuse” where her captor conditions her to be what he wants her to be.

“That’s the thing about conditioning. You can know it’s happening all you want; it doesn’t change the results.”

The minute you start reading, you are immediately involved in what is happening to Emily.

Is there an HEA? Is there romance? Is this a love story?  These are questions that you will ask yourself and answer when you finish reading this book.

I do not want to give away much more.  I do not want to spoil the story for you since I want you to experience the events with fresh eyes.

The ending left me speechless.  The epilogue was brilliant.  Many times when I read the ending of the book, I thought how I could have written that better or thought of a better ending.  This ending could NOT have been more perfect. It left me thinking and I love when a book does that.

The author, Kitty Thomas, did an amazing job.

  • Did I skim? No.
  • Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes
  • Did I think about the book when I finished? Yes.  I finished the book at night and woke up in the morning thinking about the characters. This book has stuck with me.
  • Will I reread?  Not sure if this is a story I will want to experience again. I think it was an excellent book. Maybe it is still too fresh in my mind to think if I will ever reread it.  I am still shaken by all the events.
  • Positives: I wasn’t expecting a lot of what happened in the story and I love that in the book.  The writing was amazing.
  • Negatives:  Don’t know.  Can’t think of any. I have seen reviews that said that the story was too short, but I disagree.  I think it ended at the right time.

Review of Me Before You By Jojo Moyes

Me Before You

Genre:  Realistic Fiction, Romance, Drama

Published: January 2012

Length: 516 Pages

5++ out of 5 Stars (I loved this book!)

Louisa “Lou” Clark loses her job at a coffee shop, but needs to find a job ASAP to help her family financially. The only job that is offered to her is as a caretaker for Will Traynor who was involved in an accident which left him a quadriplegic.  Lou has no experience in taking care of a quadriplegic, but takes the job since money is a great concern.  Will is not the easiest person to deal with, since he loathes how the accident has left him in a wheelchair.   However, two people, who otherwise would have never met, change the other’s life.

Okay, where do I start???  My review is not going to do justice as to how special and wonderful this book is.  I have not read a book in a long time that has made me think and cry as much as ‘Me Before You.’

This book is pricey, but I am telling you it is worth it!! Buy it! Read it!

I have already re-read certain parts of the book and have felt the same intense emotions as I did the first time.

I don’t want to give anything away because this is a book that I want the reader to experience. Some parts will be hard to read, but you will want to keep reading.

You will meet and get to know not only the main characters but their families and their relationship with each other. I felt connected to Lou and Will immediately.

So much I want to say, but I cannot.  Not knowing what to expect or how it was all going to end, made it all the more special.   So I am leaving you with the same.  However, I will tell you this…you will laugh, you will cry and you will think.

  • Did I skim? No.
  • Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes.
  • Do I recommend? Yes.
  • Would I reread? Yes

Ending: It was wonderful and everything else all in one.  I do not want to give anything away, but the last 10% of the book was 10+ stars.

Happy Reading

Review of Sweet Dreams (Colorado Mountain #2) By Kristen Ashley

Sweet Dreams

5 out of 5 Stars (Yeah, I loved it.)

Genre:  Erotica, Contemporary Romance, Motorcycle, Suspense, Mystery.

Published: April 2011

Length: 562 Pages

Where do I sign up to be a Motorcycle Biker Babe???  Because if it involves living in a small town like Carnal, Colorado, having awesome friends and a hot, alpha motorcycle man like Tate, I am signing up!!

Lauren Grahame leaves her husband of 10 years after finding out that he had been cheating with her best friend for 5 years.  Lauren packs her bags and leaves her upper middle class life in Phoenix and after 4 months of searching for town to call home, she settles in Carnal, Colorado.  There she applies for a job as a waitress.

“All my life, or as long as I can remember, I thought something special was going to happen to me. I just had this feeling, deep in my bones. I didn’t know what it was but it was going to be beautiful, spectacular, huge.  All…my…life. It didn’t. I waited and it didn’t happen. I waited more and it didn’t happen. I waited more and it still didn’t happen. I tried to make it happen and it still didn’t happen.  Now I know it isn’t going to. It’s never going to happen because there isn’t anything special out there to happen.”

And then Lauren gets the waitress job and meets hot motorcycle biker, Tatum “Tate” Jackson.

And the first time that Lauren meets Tate, he calls her “some sorry-ass, old, fat, suburban b***h.”

I was thinking, yeah, not sure if I am going to like Tate.  However, Kristen Ashley is such a fabulous writer that she does not make her heroes and heroines perfect.  There is realism; they have their faults. It is not love at first sight.  There may be immediate attraction, but there is some tension.  I have been reading so many books lately that the main characters “claim” their love in page 4.  WHAT????  Where does the story go from there??

‘Sweet Dreams’ was told brilliantly.  There was enough tension, heat and drama that I could not stop turning the pages.  Kristen Ashley does not disappoint.

To add to the love story, havoc hits Carnal when a serial killer arrives.  Someone has begun raping and killing women. Usually when murders happen in books, they are to people that are not really part of the story.  Not in this book.  No one is safe from the serial killer.

The steam factor was pretty high.  There was a lot of sex.  Some of it was hot and some it was beautiful.

The book is over 500 pages long, but there is not one page that you will want to skim. Something is always going on.

I loved the last 10% of the book.  The first 90% is in Lauren’s POV. The last 10% is from 3 characters in the book, one of them being Tate.  I loved it. LOVED IT!!!

Did I skim? NO

Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes

Do I look forward to the other book in the series? YES

Did I look forward to returning to the book when I had to stop reading? YES

Ending/Cliffhanger? Loved the ending.
